PROJECTS

Community Based and Community Led Projects

What does it mean to be Community Led?

Funguo CBO is focused on utilizing the existing skills and strength of Maasai communities to create opportunities for financial, social, and political growth. This is to be achieved through education, community support, economic ventures, and access to permaculture technologies and the resources they need to sustain themselves through agriculture.

We are dedicated to improving child protection standards, advocating for the equal rights of women, providing training and education in environmental conservation, and investing in the economic growth of Maasai communities.

SPONSORSHIPS FOR TECHNICAL COLLEGE

We have been focused on providing opportunities for young girls who would not otherwise be able to attend university or technical colleges. Last year, we successfully enrolled three young girls in technical college, all of whom were either promised in marriage or at risk of being withdrawn from school to work as house help. Our vision is to support them in starting their own businesses once they graduate from school.

ADVOCATING FOR LAND RIGHTS

At the heart of our mission is the empowerment of Maasai women through land rights advocacy.

In Kajiado, we have embarked on a transformative journey, engaging women across the community to equip them with the knowledge and tools to assert their rights to land ownership, protection, and leadership in land-use decisions.

Traditionally, women have been excluded from land-related decision-making processes, leaving them vulnerable and marginalized. Our advocacy efforts focus on ensuring that Maasai women understand their legal rights to land, enabling them to take a rightful place in the governance and stewardship of this vital resource. Through workshops, dialogues, and capacity-building initiatives, we are actively involving women in discussions about land usage, protection, and leadership.

We believe that by amplifying the voices of Maasai women in Kajiado, we are not only empowering individuals but also strengthening entire communities. As land plays a critical role in economic security, food production, and environmental sustainability, women's involvement is essential for the future of the Maasai people.

Our call to action is simple: invest in the empowerment of Maasai women.

Your support will enable us to continue our advocacy, expand our reach, and transform the landscape of land rights in Maasai land. Together, we can build a future where women are equal partners in land ownership and leadership.

ENVIROMENTAL CONSERVATION

WHY WE INVEST IN ENVIROMENTAL CONSERVATION

By promoting eco-friendly practices, communities can tap into alternative income sources that align with environmental protection. For instance, women can participate in eco-tourism ventures, craft businesses that utilize local resources sustainably or engage in agroforestry to generate income while nurturing the land. These endeavours not only provide economic stability but also enhance social cohesion and contribute to the overall well-being of communities.

Through initiatives like sustainable farming and water management, women contribute to food security and ensure access to clean water, directly improving their families' health and quality of life.Women-driven conservation efforts contribute to global initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and preserving biodiversity. The link between conservation, women, and sustainable livelihoods is a powerful catalyst for positive change, that positively impacts ecosystems and economies on a larger scale.
